Today I assembled a complex of tunnels-with-skylights for Rover (he avoids tunnels too dark to see in). The good news: He no longer hesitates to climb the ramp that’s made from a metal gate. He also wasted no time exploring every single tunnel, and examining all paths around the tunnels. The hilarious news: He now Read more about Tunnel complex[…]
Rover’s gotten heavy enough that I added some ramp support. Apparently it doubles as a comfy place to rest his hind legs. Chilling like this for over 15 minutes now.
Rover’s high-traction feet are not ticklish. He just let me pet the bottom of his raised foot multiple times, almost no reaction. Touch a claw, though, and the foot moves pronto.
It’s been over a month since I started singing/whistling to Rover to associate specific songs with specific activities. I’m doing it partly to support giving him the ability to let me know what he wants, and partly because I am curious how well he can distinguish songs. I promised myself I’d give him two months Read more about Ringing for service: singing update[…]
Whenever I’m the last to leave the house, I tell Rover he’s in charge. One of these days I expect to come home to a scene like this.
When I first got Rover he was still too young to have figured out path planning skills. If he saw a thing he wanted, he went in the direction he saw it, regardless of what obstacles lay between him and it. This often meant “leaping” off platforms that were twice as high as his carapace Read more about Dropping from ledges[…]
Running out of cork boards Rover’s had a second story in his terrarium since last summer. He was growing rapidly and my flatmate was getting rid of some cork boards that happened to be approximately the same in one dimension as the terrarium. The idea seemed obvious at the time. The second story is around Read more about Second floor[…]
I have a dream that one day Rover will be able to let me know what he wants. He’s not much into verbal communication, so currently he just clamors for service by pushing against the terrarium glass in my direction. I can never be sure what he’s requesting. A back rub usually calms him down, Read more about Ringing for service: step 1[…]
