Today I assembled a complex of tunnels-with-skylights for Rover (he avoids tunnels too dark to see in). The good news: He no longer hesitates to climb the ramp that’s made from a metal gate. He also wasted no time exploring every single tunnel, and examining all paths around the tunnels. The hilarious news: He now Read more about Tunnel complex[…]
Rover’s gotten heavy enough that I added some ramp support. Apparently it doubles as a comfy place to rest his hind legs. Chilling like this for over 15 minutes now.
It’s been over a month since I started singing/whistling to Rover to associate specific songs with specific activities. I’m doing it partly to support giving him the ability to let me know what he wants, and partly because I am curious how well he can distinguish songs. I promised myself I’d give him two months Read more about Ringing for service: singing update[…]
Running out of cork boards Rover’s had a second story in his terrarium since last summer. He was growing rapidly and my flatmate was getting rid of some cork boards that happened to be approximately the same in one dimension as the terrarium. The idea seemed obvious at the time. The second story is around Read more about Second floor[…]
Rover’s a huge fan of cozy spaces. When I first got this cave, he wouldn’t stick around in it for any length of time. At some point he decided he was big enough that it juuuust qualified as a valid sleeping space. But it’s still preferable to squeeze into an old shoe. Even when he’s not Read more about Cozy spaces[…]
Until a couple weeks ago, I thought Rover disliked swimming. Still, in my search for continued enrichment I provided him with a boat on warm water. One day he climbed over the side and started swimming cheerfully around the tub, peering around through wet eyes. After a quick search, I found that kiddie pools only Read more about Swimming: further explorations[…]
Last year, when Rover was less than a year old, I gave him the opportunity to swim. He flailed a bit and decided that was not for him. He refused to try it again over the next couple days. Since then I’ve made sure all his water was at a wading depth. Recently in an effort Read more about Swimming[…]
You know that thing where children and pets get more enjoyment out of the packaging than the thing you bought for them? I made some new cylinders for Rover when I redid the terrarium, then put him in and started cleaning up. He immediately started stalking (through the glass) the crumpled packing paper I had Read more about Packing paper[…]
While Rover has no discernible interest in balls (unless they’re rolling past him), apparently cylinders are fascinating. I hope he doesn’t get bored with them within days like he does most things.
Critter enjoyed her new macramé tunnel today.
